orthophorization A process that is presumed to operate to produce a greater frequency of nearly orthophoric conditions (in distance vision) than would otherwise occur on the basis of chance. This process may also operate after prolonged occlusion of one eye or after the introduction of prisms in front of one eye or both eyes. See vergence adaptation; emmetropization.
