orthomyxovirus /or·tho·myxo·vi·rus/ (-mik´so-vi″rus) a subgroup of myxoviruses that includes the viruses of human and animal influenza.

Etymology: Gk, orthos + mykes, fungus; L, virus, poison
a member of a family of viruses that includes several organisms responsible for human influenza infection.

orthomyxovirus [or″tho-mik″so-vi´rus]
any of a family of RNA viruses that cause influenza. Replication occurs in the nucleus and cytoplasm, and assembly is by budding on the plasma membrane. Genera include Influenzavirus A,Influenzavirus B, and Influenzavirus C.

Orthomyxovirus
a genus in the family Orthomyxoviridae. They cause influenza in various species, including human influenza, swine influenza, equine influenza and avian influenza.

Influenza is an orthomyxovirus, further classified into three types: A, B and C.
Influenza A virus, a member of the genus Orthomyxovirus, is an economically important virus that causes disease in humans, pigs, horses, and fowl (1).
Influenzas belong to the orthomyxovirus family and are made up of a single stranded helically shaped RNA virus.
