Etymology: Gk, orthos, straight, klassis, breaking, keramikos, pottery
a plentiful clay in the solid crust of the earth, used to fill space and give body to fused dental porcelain. Compare feldspar.

feldspar (feld´spär),
n a crystalline mineral of aluminum silicate with po-tassium, sodium, barium, or calcium– NaAlSi3O8 or KAlSi3O8. Feldspar melts over a range of 1,100°F to 2,000°F (593.5°C to 1093.5°C). An important constituent of dental porcelain.
