orgotein (ōr·gōˑ·tēn),
n obtained from bovine liver, this drug has been promoted as an antiaging agent and an effective treatment for scleroderma, radiation-induced cystitis, osteo-arthritis, inflammation, and urinary tract disorders. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the parenteral formulation of the agent as an orphan drug for the treatment of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; pain or allergic skin reaction at the site of injection is a commonly reported adverse effect due to the paren-teral formulation. Cu Zn superoxide dismutase.
