creatine phosphokinase (CPK, CP, or CK) test,
a blood test used to detect damage to the heart muscle, skeletal muscles, and brain. Serum CPK levels are elevated whenever such damage occurs. CPK is the main cardiac enzyme studied in patients with heart disease.
