Infection of the biliary tract with trematodes of the genus Opisthorchis, caused by ingesting raw or inadequately cooked fish infected with the parasites.

[ō′pisthôrkī′əsis]
Etymology: Gk, opisthen, behind, orchis, testicle, osis, condition
infection with one of the species of Opisthorchis liver flukes commonly found in the Philippines, India, Thailand, and Laos. Carcinoma of the intrahepatic bile ducts may be a late complication. Adequate cooking of freshwater fish prevents the disease.
