Oestrus /Oes·trus/ (es´trus) a genus of botflies. O. o´vis deposits its larvae in nasal passages of sheep and goats, and may cause ocular myiasis in humans.

a genus of botflies. O. o´vis deposits its larvae in the nostrils of sheep and goats and can cause ocular myiasis in humans.

Oestrus
a genus of bot flies in the family Oestridae.

Oestrus ovis
a widespread species that deposits its larvae on the nostrils of sheep and goats. Invasion of the nasal cavity causes irritation manifested by sneezing, nose rubbing, noisy breathing and nasal discharge. It may cause ocular myiasis in humans. Called also sheep nasal bot fly.
