necrotizing stomatitis,
n an inflammatory disease of the oral cavity characterized by the destruction of epithelium, connective tissue, and papillae. The disease may cause a loss of periodontal attachment and the destruction of bone tissue. In advanced stages, it may lead to cancrum oris (noma) with exposed alveolar bone.
