orbital mucocele

may be due to leakage from a salivary gland or lacrimal secretions. Causes exophthalmos and protrusion of the nictitating membrane.

salivary mucocele

extravasation of saliva into subcutaneous tissue following injury to a salivary gland or duct. Most commonly seen in dogs as a fluctuant, sometimes large and pendulous, nonpainful mass in the intermandibular, cranial, cervical or sublingual area.

mucocele

An abnormal enlargement of a cavity, such as the lacrimal sac when the nasolacrimal sac is blocked (or obstructed). The obstruction may occur as a result of infection, allergy, trauma or tumour, or it may cause the infection as is often the case with dacryocystitis. The patient may present with epiphora, eyelid or periorbital swelling, proptosis but rarely pain unless there is an infection. Treatment involves removal of the mucocele and perhaps construction of a new drainage channel.
