myotonic myopathy, any of a group of disorders characterized by increased skeletal muscle tone and decreased relaxation of muscle after contraction. Kinds of myotonic myopathy include myotonia congenita, myotonic muscular dystrophy. myotonic pertaining to or emanating from myotonia. myotonic dimple a depression or furrow that forms from a sudden local contraction of muscle in response to percussion and persists for up to a minute.
