Pertains to factors causing myopia. They are: genetic predisposition which includes ethnicity and a family history of high myopia; visual experiences, such as prolonged reading and extensive near work; and diseases such as congenital cataract, congenital ptosis and haemangiomas of the eyelids and orbit.
