Etymology: Gk, mys + oma, tumor
a common benign fibroid tumor of the uterine muscle. The tumor develops most frequently after 30 years of age in women, especially African-American women, who have never been pregnant. Menorrhagia, backache, constipation, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and other symptoms develop in proportion to the size, location, and rate of growth of the tumor.
