Etymology: Gk, mykes, fungus; Gk, endon, within + kardia, heart + -itis, inflammatory disease suffix
infectious endocarditis caused by infection by a fungus, most commonly Candida albicans and species of Aspergillus and Histoplasma. Symptoms are usually subacute.
