MAIS complexMycobacterium avium-intracellulare-scrofulaceum complex. Mycobacterium species that are indistinguishable from each other in regards to surface lipids and antigens, pigment production, biochemical reactions and antibiotic susceptibilities, which are often seen in the same clinical disorders.
Persistent fever, night sweats, chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, extrahepatic obstruction, anaemia.
Uncommon; affects 5–8% of patients with AIDS, especially at CD4 T cells < 0.1 x 109 (US: 100/mm3).
Ciproflozacin, clofazimine, ethambutol, rifampicin, amikacin, rifabutin, clarithromycin, azithromycin.
