mycobacterial emanating from or pertaining to mycobacterium. mycobacterial granuloma may be caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (see cutaneous tuberculosis), M. lepraemurium (see feline leprosy) or opportunist mycobacteria (see opportunist mycobacterial granuloma, below). opportunist mycobacterial granuloma a chronic infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, caused by saprophytic mycobacteria, usually as a result of wound contamination. Seen most commonly in cats, particularly in the inguinal region, the lesion may be extensive with ulceration and draining fistulas. Called also pyogranulomatous panniculitis.
