musical ear syndrome

A condition characterised by auditory hallucinations in an otherwise normal—i.e., not psychotic—person who has marked hearing impairment. It is regarded as analogous to the Charles Bonnet syndrome in that the hallucinations are the brain’s response to a loss of auditory input, which it creates fill in the gaps due to impairment.
