mummification /mum·mi·fi·ca·tion/ (mum?i-fi-ka´shun) the shriveling up of a tissue, as in dry gangrene, or of a dead, retained fetus.

The shrivelling of a dead and retained fetus.

mummification
conversion to a dehydrated state; commonly said of a fetus. The soft tissues are very much reduced in volume, the skin is leathery and the tissues are deeply brown-stained.
