1. A phobic state evoked by specific–ie, only one, mono–animals or situations, characterized by circumscribed anxiety, childhood onset, a 1:1 ♂:♀ ratio, a normal physiologic and mental substrate, and response to therapy. See Phobia. Cf Agoraphobia, PAD syndrome.
