mononucleosis spot test, a rapid slide blood test performed to aid in the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis, a disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Abnormal findings may indicate chronic EBV infection, chronic fatigue syndrome, some forms of chronic hepatitis, and Burkitt's lymphoma, which is strongly associated with EBV.
