monoamine-dependent system (mˈ·nō··mēnˑ-d·penˑ·dnt sisˑ·tm),

n in acupuncture, a model system of activating the body's endogenous opioid peptide system to influence pain regulation with high-frequency (at least 70 Hz)/low-intensity electrical stimulation. The analgesic response is usually rapid, segmented, and not increased with repeated stimulations. See also endorphin-dependent system.
