a breath test for pancreatic function, in which a mixture of synthetic triglycerides labeled with carbon 13 is administered to the fasting patient and levels of labeled carbon dioxide in the breath are subsequently measured at regular time intervals. Excessively low carbon dioxide indicates inadequate pancreatic lipase in the intestine.
