A crude clinical test used to obtain material from the upper respiratory tract, in which the patient coughs on a mirror held in place in the upper larynx, which is sprayed with bronchial ‘juices’ which, if sufficiently voluminous, can provide material, albeit suboptimal, for cytology and culture
