minimum daily requirement (MDR)
Etymology: L, minimum + OE, daeglie + L, requirere, to seek the daily human requirement of nutrients for health and for prevention of a deficiency disease. The figures, established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, are generally extrapolated from experimental animal studies and include an added margin for safety.
