a paravertebral small sympathetic ganglion, sometimes absent; located at the level of the cricoid cartilage.
Synonym(s): ganglion cervicale medium [TA]

middle cervical ganglion

a ganglion at the level of the sixth cervical vertebra. Branches from this ganglion pass to spinal nerves C7 to T1, the vertebral artery, and the heart as the middle cardiac nerve.

middle cervical ganglion

The central and smallest of the cervical ganglia. It is adjacent to vertebra C6. Approximately 40% of people lack this ganglion. In some people, it merges with the superior cervical ganglion, forming one elongated ganglion. Postganglionic sympathetic axons from the middle cervical ganglion join cervical nerves C5–C6.
