microgametocyte [-gamē′təsīt] Etymology: Gk, mikros + gamete, spouse, kytos, cell an enlarged merozoite that undergoes meiosis to form the mature male gamete during the sexual phase of the life cycle of certain thallophytes and sporozoa, specifically the malarial parasite Plasmodium.
