1. the smaller, often flagellated, actively motile male anisogamete.
2. the smaller of two types of malarial parasites; see gamete (2).

The smaller of a pair of conjugating gametes, usually the male, in a heterogamous organism.

microgamete
[-gam′ēt]
the small, motile male gamete of certain thallophytes and sporozoa, specifically the malarial parasite Plasmodium. It corresponds to the sperm of the higher animals and unites in conjugation with the larger, nonmotile female gamete. Compare macrogamete.

microgamete
the smaller, actively motile male gamete which fertilizes the macrogamete in anisogamy.
