Etymology: Gk, mikros + Fr, fiche, peg
a sheet of microfilm that contains several separate photographic reproductions. The sheet is a convenient size for filing and enables large amounts of data to be stored in a relatively small space. See also microfilm.

We did a little research on this idea once, and are happy to finally have an excuse to show off our microfiching skills.
Greater protection for high-risk archival material is required until the archives copying and microfiching program reduces the requirement for public access to original documents.
