microaggregate recipient set
[mi′krō·ag′rəgāt] Etymology: Gk, mikros + L, ad, to, gregare, to collect, recipere, to receive; AS, settan a device composed of plastic components for the IV delivery of large volumes of stored whole blood or of packed blood cells. The components of the set include the plastic tubing, roller clamp, and special filter that prevents the microaggregates or deteriorated red blood cells from entering the circulatory system of the patient. The plastic tubing of this device has a larger lumen than tubing of most other IV sets, which allows the blood to be delivered more rapidly. Compare component drip set, component syringe set, straight line blood set. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
