methyl /meth·yl/ (meth´il) the chemical group or radical CH3—.
methyl methacrylate  a methyl ester of methacrylic acid, which polymerizes to form polymethyl methacrylate; used in the manufacture of acrylic resins and plastics.
methyl salicylate  a volatile oil with a characteristic wintergreen odor and taste; used as a flavoring agent and as a topical counterirritant for muscle pain.

methyl methacrylate
(meth´il methak´rilāt),
n an acrylic resin, CH2 = C(CH3)COOCH3, derived from methyl acrylic acid. Monomer is the single molecule and polymer is the polymerization product.

polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)
Polymerized methyl methacrylate forming a light transparent thermoplastic material used in the manufacture of some spectacle lenses and formerly hard contact lenses. See modulus of elasticity; plastic spectacle frame.

Sabic and Mitsubishi Rayon Company Ltd (MRC) will participate equally in a billion-dollar joint venture to manufacture methyl methacrylate monomer (MMA) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in Saudi Arabia following a Letter of Intent (LoI) they signed.
1 maker of methyl methacrylate (MMA) used for acrylic resin, gained a fifth in value.
The Saudi plant would produce 250,000 tonnes per year of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers and is expected to start production in 2013, Sabic, the world's biggest petrochemicals producer by market value, said in a statement.
