Sabic and Mitsubishi Rayon Company Ltd (MRC) will participate equally in a billion-dollar joint venture to manufacture methyl methacrylate monomer (MMA) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in Saudi Arabia following a Letter of Intent (LoI) they signed.
The Saudi plant would produce 250,000 tonnes per year of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers and is expected to start production in 2013, Sabic, the world's biggest petrochemicals producer by market value, said in a statement.
Acrylic glass is used in various consumer electronics and auto parts, and demand for its resin, methyl methacrylate monomer, has been recovering, partly helped by Chinese stimulus measures.
