metagenesis /meta·gen·e·sis/ (-jen´ĕ-sis) alternation of generations; alternation in regular sequence of asexual and sexual reproductive methods, as in certain fungi.
metagenesis [met′əjen′əsis] Etymology: Gk, meta + genein, to produce the regular alternation of sexual with asexual methods of reproduction within the same species. metagenetic, metagenic, adj. metagenesis [met″ah-jen´ĕ-sis] alternation in regular sequence of asexual and sexual methods of reproduction in the same species, as in certain fungi. Called also alternation of generations and heterogenesis.
