decidua /de·cid·ua/ (dĕ-sid´u-ah) the endometrium of the pregnant uterus, all of which, except the deepest layer, is shed at parturition.decid´ual
basal decidua , decidua basa´lis that portion directly underlying the chorionic sac and attached to the myometrium. capsular decidua , decidua capsula´ris that portion directly overlying the chorionic sac and facing the uterine cavity. parietal decidua , decidua parieta´lis that portion lining the uterus elsewhere than at the site of attachment of the chorionic sac.
decidua [disij′o̅o̅·ə] Etymology: L, decidere, to fall off the epithelial tissue of the endometrium lining the uterus. It envelops the conceptus during gestation and is shed in the puerperium. It is also shed periodically with menstruation. Kinds of decidua are decidua basalis, decidua capsularis, and decidua vera.
