Etymology: L, men + Gk, stasis, stand still
an abnormal condition in which the products of menstruation cannot escape the uterus or vagina because of stenosis, an occlusion of the cervix or the introitus of the vagina. An imperforate hymen is a rare cause of menostasis. menostatic, adj.
