If the primary melters are designed with dry hearth charging systems, the materials should be charged in a manner that will allow as much exposure of charge surface to the flue gases as possible.
Integrated transducers enable close monitoring of adhesive temperature and pressures via the melter control system or an auxiliary control module.
Since the two melters served parallel casting systems in the plant, samples first were taken during day-shift production from the molten hearth of each furnace and then from the delivery systems to the casting stations.
The second subcontract, a multi-year subcontract with a period of performance through February 2006, will provide support to Bechtel for the completion of the full-scale melter vitrification system design, provide engineering support during melter system fabrication, melter system assembly and melter system start-up and commissioning support.
Automatic filling saves operator time and prevents thermal shock and adhesive degradation, while reducing contamination and downtime due to an empty melter tank.
Recognizing the possibility for direct power coil shorts at maximum voltage, the furnace manufacturers uniformly design their melters to minimize the likelihood of the shorts and equip them with elaborate, redundant safety devices to automatically interrupt power and sound alarms if they do happen.
Integrated level control helps prevent product rejects and waste from melters running out of adhesive.
Stack/tower melters make full use of direct flame and combustion products by charging all ingot and scrap through the stack or flue.
