Etymology: L, medulla, marrow; ME, kidenei
a part of the parenchyma of the kidney, beneath the cortex, including the renal pyramids and columns. It contains few, if any, glomeruli. An inner layer contains the papillae, and the outer part, which extends as far as the arcuate vessels, contains the thick ascending limbs of the loop of Henle.
