A condition characterized by an abnormally large number of granulocytes in blood or tissues.

granulocytosis

Etymology: L, granulum + Gk, kytos, cell, osis, condition
an abnormal increase in the total number of granulocytes in the blood, as occurs in response to infection. Compare granulocytopenia.

granulocytosis
an excess of granulocytes in the blood.

masked granulocytosis
an increase in the total number of granulocytes but not the leukocyte count, resulting from an increase in the marginal pool.
paraneoplastic granulocytosis
seen in association with neoplasia; the cause is unknown.
