1. the larger, less active female anisogamete.
2. the larger of two types of malarial parasites; see gamete (2).

The larger of a pair of conjugating gametes, usually the female, in an organism that reproduces by heterogamy. Also called megagamete.

macrogamete
[-gam′ēt]
Etymology: Gk, makros + gamete, spouse
a large nonmotile female gamete of certain thallophytes and sporozoa, specifically the malarial parasite Plasmodium. It corresponds to the ovum of the higher animals and is fertilized by the smaller, motile male gamete. Compare microgamete.

macrogamete [mak″ro-gam´ēt]
1. the larger, less active female gamete in sexual reproduction, which is fertilized by the smaller male gamete (microgamete).
2. the larger of two types of malarial parasites; see gamete (def. 2).
