lysine intolerance, a congenital disorder resulting in the inability to hydrolyse the essential amino acid lysine because of an enzyme deficiency or defect. The disorder is characterized by weakness, vomiting, and coma. It is treated by adjusting the protein content of the diet, restricting foods especially high in lysine. See also lysinemia.
