I have a low back pain that radiates to my leg when i pick up stuff. Is it a disc herniation? I am a 43 years old bank teller. During the past 5 months I've suffered from a low back pain. The pain is not very strong, but it gets much worse while doing physical activity. When i walk or lift heavy things the pain is even stronger, and it radiates to my left leg. Can it be signs for disc herniation? A. You can't tell for sure that your symptoms are due to a specific disc pathology. When i had similar symptoms i went to the GP and he told me to lay down on your back. Then he slowly raised my left leg while the knee is kept in extension. He said that If raising the leg over 60 degree exacerbates the pain its very likely to be disc herniation. But you should go to your GP and have him examine you. Q. any tips for low back strain? I'm an athlete, been having maaaajor lower back pain lately, during sports mainly but also when I just get out of bed in the morning. I was never like this- I'm really into sports and never felt so old in my life!!! Dont think the doctors really know their way with me, was hoping for some tips from your side. thanx A. My sister-in-law has the same problem. She tried a chiropractor and that provided temporary relief. Now she is in the process of taking a series of three epidural shots. This may be an option. Q. i suffer from a really strong lower back pain? how can i ease the pain and treat it correctly? A. First, take some time, don't do much, take ibuprofen, go on walks and stretch like crazy, three times a day if you can. I stretch at my desk job all the time. Just throw my leg up when I start hurting and stretch the back of my legs. I am a lot more problematic (had a couple of back operations)but that is the basics. Like I have told others. Best way to ultimately tell is by seeing a nurosurgeon or orthopedic and get an MRI. It is spendy but it tells the story. They may say operate but it doesn't mean you have to. They are professionals, find good docs, ask around. Good luck. Read more or ask a question about lumbagoHow to thank TFD for its existence?
