Like many communities in Maine, Little Cranberry Island is sustained by commercial fishing, especially lobstering. Lobstering from a kayak also can be thrilling on nights with big winter swells. They derive from boats put in service as working craft -- many before the gasoline engine was invented -- which over generations, have proven themselves suitable to a job on the water whether it was clamming, lobstering or fishing. |
