The 2003 French guidelines on the management of CRLM recommended four categories that could be defined: (i) easily resectable liver metastases; (ii) resectable liver metastases involving five to six liver segments and/or contralateral major vascular structures; (iii) liver metastases that are initially unresectable but may become resectable after chemotherapy; and (iv) definitely unresectable liver metastases [14].
