1. a structure or device resembling the stirrup of a saddle, or the portion of an apparatus on which to rest the feet. 2. stapes.
stapes [sta´pēz] stirrup 1. the stapes, the innermost of the three ossicles of the ear. 2. device usually made of metal, although some are wooden or laminated hard leather, attached by stirrup leathers to the saddle and providing support for the feet of the rider.
