lipoxygenase /li·poxy·ge·nase/ (lĭ-pok´sĭ-jĕ-nās) an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids to form a peroxide of the acid.

An enzyme that catalyzes oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids with oxygen to yield peroxides. Also called lipoxidase.

lipoxygenase (lipˈ·äkˑ·s·j·nās),
n catalytic enzyme that facilitates the synthesis of leukotrienes by converting arachidonic acid to hydroxyeicosenoic acid via an oxidative process.
