Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy Neurology Any of a group of often AR muscular dystrophies that first involve either the shoulder–Erb type or the pelvic–Leyden-Möbius type girdle Clinical Limb-girdle 'syndromes' are of later onset than Duchenne's dystrophy, with marked muscular atrophy of the affected region accompanied by relentless deterioration, later involving the extremities Diagnosis EMG, muscle biopsy DiffDx LGD also occurs in acid maltase deficiency, Becker, Duchenne and Emery-Dreifuss dystrophies, endocrine myopathies, lipid storage disease, late onset–nemaline, central-core myopathies, polymyositis, sarcoidosis.
