elevator surfing

A form of dare devil “joy riding” in which one or more person(s) ride on the outside of a moving elevator/lift, or jump between moving elevators in tall buildings or on college campuses. It is illegal and extremely dangerous, and can cause death by crushing between the elevator and/or its counterweight and the top, sides or bottom of the shaft; multi-storey falls down the shaft; or entanglement with the lift’s cables.
