levocarnitine /le·vo·car·ni·tine/ (-kahr´nĭ-tēn) a preparation of the biologically active l-isomer of carnitine used in the treatment of carnitine deficiency.
levocarnitine [-kär′nitēn] an oral drug for carnitine deficiency. indication It is prescribed for the treatment of primary systemic carnitine deficiency. contraindication It should not be given to patients with a known hypersensitivity to carnitine. adverse effects Adverse effects include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and body odor. levocarnitine [le″vo-kahr´nĭ-tēn] a preparation of the biologically active l-isomer of carnitine, used to treat carnitine deficiency, either primary or secondary to an inborn error of metabolism, and to prevent and treat carnitine deficiency associated with hemodialysis in end-stage renal disease; administered orally.
