a portion of the head of the pancreas that hooks around posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels, sometimes into the nutcracker (q.v.) formed by the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta.

lesser pancreas

The semidetached lobular part of the posterior surface of a head of the pancreas, sometimes having a separate duct opening into the principal one.
