krait (krāt) any member of the genus Bungarus, extremely venomous crotalid snakes found from India across Southeast and East Asia.

However, the Yellow-lipped Sea Krait has been found to twist its tail so that the tip corresponds with the dorsal view of the head, which combined with deceptive colouring, gives the illusion of having two heads and two loads of deadly venom.
They range from the blowing a bridge in Greece, to the Krait mission, to sabotage of the German heavy water plant made famous in a none too accurate feature film ('The Heroes of Telemark' starring Kirk Douglas) and a recent ABC television documentary featuring the Norwegian survivors.
The award was set up as a tribute to a world-famous snake study man who tragically died several years ago after being bitten by a deadly Krait snake while working in Burma.
