Apart from its kininogenase activity, tissue kallikrein has been implicated in the processing of growth factors and peptide hormones in light of its presence in pituitary, pancreas, and other tissues (31).
Among the known kallikrein enzymes, only plasma kallikrein (encoded by a single gene localized on human chromosome 4835; official symbol KLKB1) and pancreatic/renal kallikrein (hK1) have significant kininogenase activity.
On the other hand, it has no kininogenase activity (40), and studies of PSA activity on the singlechain urokinase-type plasminogen activator disagree (41, 42).
