[kin′əmat′ik]
an adjustable caliper-like device used for precisely locating the axis of rotation of a mandible through the sagittal plane. Also called adjustable axis face-bow, hinge-bow.

face-bow,
n a caliper-like device that is used to record the relationship of the maxillae to the temporomandibular joints (or opening axis of the mandible) and to orient the casts in this same relationship to the opening axis of an articulator.

n a face-bow attached to the mandible with caliper ends (condyle rods) that can be adjusted to permit the accurate location of the axis of rotation of the mandible.
